Assuming the engine is running as well as it could be stock, changing the differential gears would make a big difference to getting up and going. Everything you do to the motor that doesn't involve pistons rods and crankshaft is usually just a tradeoff between power and torque.

yes its running well, it never skips a beat. which way should i go in the gearing? 4.10 or 2.90? what can i do just to add a bit of power without breaking the bank or tearing the engine apart?

2.90 would be out of the question for power. If you want to go cheaply then delete ac if you have it and do electric fan swap.

Higher numbers allow the motor to move the truck easier. The higher the number, the easier to accelerate. But they use more gas on the highway.
Higher number gears are called lower gears - they just are.
You would have to start by figuring out what gears you have now (code on the door post sticker)
If you have 3;08's, then 3;55 or 3;73 will make a difference. If you have 3;55, you'd be looking for 3;73 or 4;10, etc.

e-fan conversion can net you as much as 20hp (regained) over stock fan. Cost can be $50 if you use junkyard parts (which are better anyway)
