Default 5.0 break in?

Time to break the engine in. Trying to figure out the best oil to use for this. Something that wont cost an arm an a leg to replace every 3000 miles either

Honestly I am new to the truck community but I have been building mustangs for years, mainly the 5.0 motors. I always run the Royal Purple break in oil for about 250 miles and then changed to a full synthetic. But if your is a stock or nearly stock rebuild then run regular Motorcraft oil changing at normal intervals till around 10k and then go to a synthetic blend. I have always been told that running full synthetic from the start never really gives the engine a chance to break-in. Hope this helps.

I would recommend Rotella SAE30 for break in. Also, the every 3000 mile oil change is obsolete. It should be every 5,000 at the bare minimum. And make sure you use a good filter. i.e. No Fram or SuperTech.

Nothing wrong with most Supertech filters, but the basic orange Fram filters are junk.

Rotella is cheap cause it's junk...you pay for what you get. Whatever you plan on running in the engine is what you need to break it in with.

All the oil test reports I've read on Rotella have been excellent. T6 synthetic is inexpensive and tests very well at 5k change intervals on the motorcycle.

Also, it's patently false that you need to break in the engine on the same oil you will run with. You can change between brands and types at any time you feel the urge.

$6 or so a quart when you buy it by the gallon, depending on your source.

Rotella Junk? LOL

Been running Rotella in everything I own including the atv's and lawn mowers. Rotella 15w40 and t6 are wet clutch certified and everything from the motorcycle world to the diesel world is running it. Great oil and the best customer service on the planet. Their techs have ended many battles over wet clutch compatibility and answered every question we'v ever sent to them about performance, break in, Etc.
