Default 4x4 Question

I have a 1993 f150 4.9 manual with manual hubs. Does it hurt the truck if i lock the hubs in on a ****ty day but only run in 2wd until i need the 4x4? What speeds are good when using 4x4? I know I should never use 4x4 on dry ground.

I don't think so. It's common to lock in the hubs if you think you may need 4WD. You just get worse gas mileage. For us with 4WD on the fly, we are always turning our hubs.

It puts an extra load on the differential and u joints because they will be freewheeling and are not designed for that. However, it shouldt be a big issue as long as you are not at high speeds or making a habit of it.

Take the extra minute to jump out and lock them when you need it... I just replaced my auto hubs with manuals (autos went out)... It does create extra wear... And if you strip one out or break one of those tiny aluminum clamps 5 miles from home on a shi**y day... Your day just got shi**ier....
