Default 4x4 Question?

IS a Ford 4.9L a decent 4x4 engine? I know it has the low end torque which is where I would think it would be needed for travelling mud n snow.

The 4.9L by itself is a very respected engine as far as reliability and durability. If you're not the high-revving type that likes to rut through mudholes at high RPM - suggest the 4.9L is a good choice - much like I prefer the 258 inline six over the 304 V8 in the old CJ Jeeps.

Im just lookin for somethin slow and steady through snow and light mud, high reving just burns fuel. no point to that at todays gas prices.
