Default 4x4 problem

I have a 1990 xlt lariet, 302 v8. It is a automatic with manual locking hubs and 4x4 shifter on the floor.

The truck will go into 4 wheel high but I am not sure that it is working. When I make some sharp turns I dont feel it like I think I should. The other problem is that I can not get the shifter to go into nuetral or 4 wheel low.

As for as the manual locking hubs, once they are locked in and you are trying to go back to two wheel, do they automatically pop out when you drive in reverse or do you have to get out and do it yourself.

Any suggestions for things I can try would be great thanks for the help in advance.

When manual hubs are locked, they dont come out unless they are unlocked, and you might want to lubricate the linkage on the transfer case, it might be gummed up preventing the shifter from fully moving or engaging.

In case you didn't know this, to go to transfer case neutral or low, the transmission must be in neutral first
