So far this is where i am...

cut the floorboard for the 4x4 shifter
Front axel
Rear Springs and Blocks
Transfer case
Short output shaft swap in the tranny and transfer case end cone (T case adapter)\Linkage
make axel ratios the same (most likely change to 4.10's)

Once i have just the front axel in i can drive the truck with it this way right?

the swap is so easy i've done about 4 of them, the only part that is a paint is the front tank, you'll have to find one from a shortbed 4x4. if yours is a reg cab shortbed with dual tanks.

other than that, the ones i've done i picked up a nice 2x4 (people tend to take care of them better), picked up a cheap hunk of a 4x4 around the same years with the same tranny's. everything is a direct swap, takes me about 2 full days 2 swap out tranny's transfers and front axles and have it back on the road.
the last one we did i bought a 95 2x4 for 1300.00 and a 93 4x4 for 700( rough rough shape) swapped everything off both trucks and sold the 95 for 3100.00 and the beat up 93 for the 700.00 that i paid for it when it was a 4x4.

and if the rear axle gears dont match it is onlo 8 bolts 2 shock bolts and one brake line to swap it out too.

So I'm assuming a 3.83 or 4.11 gear set is preferred with the 4X4 conversion?
I'm not planning on doing the swap anytime soon, lest the opportunity becomes readily available and cheap! lol.
It does sound like more and more people are going this route though.

No one does this unless you have cash you want to waste or you are doing a sas. It is way to hard and cost too much money. Just sell the 2wd and buy a 4x4.

IMHO.
