Default 4 wheel drive issues

Hey guys, new to the forum with a question. I have 94 F150 and the 4 wheel drive and the 4 high lights are on but the truck is not in 4 wheel drive. When I push the button nothing happens, I will not hear the click click under the dash until I shift it into neutral, but it still does nothing. People I have talked to say it could be the actuator or the transfer case module. Any suggestions on how I diagnose this problem, hunting season is just around the corner.
Thanks,
Geno

check your valve down on the axle. Check hose going to it could be ripped or cracked.

is tihis the push button 4x4? cause if it is they were junk. although i dont know much about how to diagnose them i would check the actuator and valve. sometimes the electrical connections corrode and it can be as easy as cleanin the connections. sometimes.

If this has the auto hubs, you may want to consider replacing with manual hubs. The previous owner of my 94 Ford F150 XLT had problems (dont know specifics) with the auto hub and removed them and replaced with manual hubs.

Seems to work fine as all I do is lock the hubs, hit the 4x4 button on the dash and away I go.

had a hub lock up too, but it actually kept me in 4x4 regardless of the selection (not push button). i had to beat the heck out of it to get it to unlock. several trips around the block backward, and eventually, it broke free. switched to manuals - no problems since. if your's is not in 4x4 still, i think it would eliminate this as a cause.

auto transfer case is your problem right there swap to manual and your all set... (make sure to get manual hubs too)

There is no vacuum line going to these axles!!! The auto hubs us a mechanical dog that engages the outer hub when the axle turns THEY ARE NOT VACUUM. Having people look for mysterious non-existent hoses will not help them with their problems. The newer bodies and rangers do have vacuum hoses.
To his problem check if the hubs are working or locked if manual. Sometimes they need to move slightly to lock up the front drive line so check after moving the vehicle about 5 feet. As others have stated the motors on the transfer cases do go bad so if these don't work make sure that the motor is not bound up.
