Probably close to a decade. Search FSB for a thread I started called something like "Download your Ford service disks free now".

Alright. I hope that this puts this to bed finally. I replaced that egr valve gasket and it was still idling at 950 or so rpms. I made a home vac leak tester and hooked it up today. The EGR valve DOES have a vac leak. In this video I took, you can clearly see the egr valve is leaking smoke from the diaphram area. This nebulizer pump pressurized everything to MABEY 1 or 2psi. This is the same spot that showed a vac keak with Propane the other day. I saw a tiny leak around the TPS too, but I dont think that's something that I need to worry about. The linkage side of the TB didnt leak. The charcoal canister showed a lot of smoke, but I think that's normal... Steve83, what do you think?

That URL doesn't even appear to be a link, but my ISP is too crappy to play videos anyway.

The EGR diaphragm is designed to leak, but only to vent the valve closed through the green vacuum line (not directly to the intake), which isn't large enough to affect idle.

That's what I thought. But there shouldn't be a leak shown from the diaphram area to the outside air, regardless. That's what this test is showing me. I'll try to post up a full web link later on just in case.

Seems like you knew the answer from the get go, bad EGR. It's always been my understanding the EGR will hold solid vacuum/pressure but the EVR will not as it vents the EGR.

Yes, that's exactly what it's designed to do, so the EVR doesn't have to be built with a "vent" position (although many ARE). As long as the leak is substantially smaller than the supply line, the vacuum will quickly overcome the leak & open the EGR. Then, when the EVR closes, the leak (either in the EGR or in the EVR or in both) will allow the EGR to close quickly.

But that leak (or leakS) isn't so big that it affects idle, and it's NOT directly from the outside to the intake. It passes through the EGR, EVR, & vacuum lines (though NOT USUALLY through the reservoir).

Ford has used vented EGRs & vented EVRs on these trucks over the years.

Wow thats really interesting! So what about the other bigger "leak" I found? The charcoal canister seems to vent smoke in this test from the actual vent cap on top. Is that supposed to be closed from engine vacuum when the truck is off/solenoid not energized?

Depends on exactly how the truck is built (which STILL isn't in your signature). Read these captions:

Yes, phone apps are a BIG problem with using discussion forums like this one. They don't do what a normal browser does. Try using the Chrome browser app instead of a forum-posting app; or use a real computer (desktop or laptop). Make sure your profile settings automatically add your sig to your posts.
