Default 3rd brakelight

What year did the 3rd brake light appear on F series pickups? I ask because there is a new inspection point in Texas that; those must function, I was dinged on my '87, which I'm pretty sure never had that to begin with. I was charged $5 for a bulb which changed nothing and it still passed. I think once they saw the inside of the cargo light, they realized their mistake, but were too spineless to admit it. I'd have argued it on the spot if I was sure of my facts.

"94 IIRC. Broncos got it in '92, but I'm sure Fs didn't get it until later, when it was required by law. Try looking up the CHMSL law to see when it went into effect. You could also look up the wiring here:

'94 in Canada. Same year as airbags and side impact beams. Probably the same for you.
Definitely not available in 87. But it's only 5.00 so maybe just let it go.

It's not the $5, it's not even the principal of the thing, it is more about educating them to keep hardship off of future customers.

Yep, my 93 has no brake light or air bags, pretty sure it was the last year before MAF sensors were introduced too.

MAF was optional in '94-95 with certain powertrain configurations; standard in '96 on all 1/2-ton trucks.
