Default 393 Windsor Stroker

Hey guys, i want to build a 393 stroker from a 351w and am shooting for around 450-500 hp. im on a budget also. I have heard that you just take 302 pistons and get a new crank for it with some heads?? What is the best way to build the motor to get to 450hp? Also, i want it to be fuel injected.

Whew! you got LOTS of readin to do my man!!!

When building a performance engine on a budget you can only have 2 of the three things below..

Fast
Cheap
Reliable

Pick two

A 393 is a stroked and bored (.030-.040 I believe) 351, no 302 pistons used! to reach 450-500 HP you will need good aluminum heads, stroker crank, higher compression pistons, a good cam, correct length rods, balanced rotating assy. etc.

You're talking big dollars bud...

Ford Racing retails one for about $9k...http://www.fordracingparts.com/parts...KeyField=13509, just as a reference on the budget you're going to need.

350-400 would be fine too for horsepower.

I think you should also get an idea how much power 400 horse really is. Are you going to race this truck. Stock is around 200. With 400 you need to beef up the driveline, rear axle, suspension brakes, tires, steering , motor mounts ,frame cross members, clutch. And that has nothing to do with the parts to make the power. Shoot for closer to 300. That can be done with heads, cam and exhaust, and with a little beefing up your driveline and chassis can handle it just fine.

300 sounds fine for hp. so i have the 8.8 rear end, and the mazda tranny in the truck now. so will all this need to be replaced or will it handle the 300 horse windsor?

You could do 400 just fine without changing all that...clutch an driveline yeah but the rest of that means nothing unless yer gonna race it...which I doubt. But yer still gonna have atleast 4 grand in it. And keeping it injected makes it cost that much more. Fuel pumps, injectors, mass air meters...I think you should do a lil more research on this. I've been there...my 351 is prob 3 to 350 hp, never had it dynoed, an I've got over 3k in it. And took quite sometime to get it all to work ok. There are FI specific cams, intakes...just loads of combinations for this part to make this part work together. The guys at summits tech line are purdy sharp, might try and give them a call.

In any case of putting more power to the ground it is always a good idea to beef up the axle and trans but on the other side of it I know a lot of racers who use the 8.8 rear end out of the old fords for there drag cars the 9 inch rear end i guess is the tops but 8.8 can hold its own how ever they always have used better differentials and gears. anyways go for it just put a high prefomance clutch kit in and get a drive line loop just in case it would also be a great idea to add some extra stopping power to
