Default 351 or 460?

I have recently gotten into mud drags with my 96 f150. It has a 351 but it just lacks in power against some of the competition. Now I have a 460 out of a 76 it has a semi fresh rebuild with edlbrock intake headers and holly carb. Now should I go to all the effort of the swap or just rebuild the 351
Any help would be much appreciated

i would do the 460 since its carbed, you can pull a ton of power out of it pretty easy.

I say stick with the windsor. Racers have used these engines for decades, they are one of ford most depenable and popular engines. The 460 is big, and cumbersome. You're truck already weighs a ton, why make it weigh more when you can get just as much power from the 351. However, I will admit that it might be a little bit more pricey than just swapping to a 460.

If you want the power go with the 460 but the 351 is bulletproof.

I wouldnt go that far. Now the 351 is super depenable. But its the 300 straight six and 302 V8 that are bulletproof.

Build the 351. It has lots of potential. And I means LOTS of potential. Honestly, you are sitting on a gold mine as far as engines go. You could easily do a H/C/I upgrade or stroke it to a 408 if you want to tally big boy hp numbers and not change a thing from a wiring and drop in perspective goes. From the factory the 351 has wimpy heads and a wimpy intake which would greatly contribute to your wimpy engine blues.

My vote is for the fuel injected 351. To heck with carburetors and big gas hog engines. A cam and headers on that 351 will do wonders i'm sure.

Doesnt matter about mpg if its just a mud drag truck u can get way more out of a 460 if that be all u are using it for. If u still drive it on roads then the 351 is probly better. Depends how much u want to work with getting the carbed 460 to work with everything else unless u swapped carb to efi on the 460
