Default 302 motor swap, missing sensor

I'm replacing my old 302 from my 92 F150 with a rebuilt motor, its from an early to mid 80's truck....anyway on my '92 motor, ontop of the block, behind the intake manifold is a sensor...but the new motor there is no spot to thread the sensor in, what is the sensor and will my truck still run ok, if i just leave that connector unplugged and tape over it or something on the wiring harness, other than that everything else looks exactly the same as far as the swap goes....thanks

Its the knock sensor not sure how a vehicle will react with out it.

I did pretty much same thing on a Jeep. It thew codes, and sounded like a diesel. Just my experience, had to get the right newer motor. Put newer motor in with the sensor hole no probs. My.02

I'm hoping thats a Jeep issue, not a Ford one....'cause the motor is already in and just about ready to crank it up....

It will be throwing codes and the timing will be jumping all over the place.

Ok, i'm thinking their should be a way to fool the computer into thinking its there....what is the 'normal' voltage that the sensor outputs when there is no knock detected....if its zero I could just short out the connector?? If its something else, i could just rig up a little battery pack with the right voltage, and a switch to turn it on when the truck is running, it would be weird but it would work, this is my work truck, my source of income, and i really don't want to pull the motor and buy another one, don't have the cash

FWIW, i found this bit of info from the following link

http://fullsizebronco.com/forum/showthread.php?t=148397

I'm just gonna try hooking up the sensor and zip tying it out of the way, see if that works

Update:

I wrapped the sensor in a piece of shop towel for padding and protection (to avoid false vibration readings) connected it to the wiring harness, wrapped a plastic sandwich bag around it and zip tied it out of the way

vehicle starts and runs, seems just fine

Should be fine tied away from things.
Its only looking for a specific frequency and with it out of the way
and not touching anything it should never detect the frequency its looking for.

You seriously took the time to post that???^^^^^
Why would anyone in their right mind design a system that would make the timing jump all over the place if the knock sensor wasn't hooked up?
A less agressive timing curve maybe, but timing jumping all over would create knock, advanced or retarded.

Now lets look how utterly useless a knock sensor is. You realise the sensor has to actually read knock before the computer does anything right? If it is reading knock..Houston we have a problem! So the engine knocks, the computer adjusts, then what, it knocks, so the computer adjusts ect ect ect. I'm so glad there is a sensor that reads the engine destroying it's self and adjusts for it.

Sorry I'd rather go without, and tune the engine properly, rather than have a sensor that will read it as it slowly destroys it's self.
