302 Engine Swap Blues
This is my first post here and let me say you all have a great looking forum.
My dad has a 1995 F150 with the 302 in it that decided to throw a rod through the side of it.
For the replacement engine we ended up with one from a 1991 F150, but now we seem to have a few problems.
When i first got everything installed and was trying to get it started thats when i learned about the firing orders being different.
As it stands so far the only thing that came from the doner truck has been the engine.
On the '95 model i routed the firing order as original being 13726548 only to find it would not run at all, got a few backfires but that was it
. I next rewired the firing order to 15426378 that belonged to the older engine from the '91.
After doing this the truck fired up but never run right. I thought at first that it could be bad gas as it had set over a year with a quarter tank of fuel in one tank and a half of tank in the other. I ran the quarter tank completely dry and now i can not get it to start at all.
Now it doesn't appear to be getting any fire at all, so i don't really think fuel is the issue at the moment.
May main question here tonight is that. Since i have changed the firing order just by rewiring the plug wires, do i need to change the fuel injection harness around in someway , or do i need to use the computer from the other truck? In the small amount of time i have had it running , could I have messed up something electrical causing it to not fire at all now? which would be best.
After changing the firing order i still could not figure out how it would actually run as thats all i changed, it did seem to miss but i blamed that on old fuel, but i could have been the wrong injectors spraying fuel at the wrong time.
Im not a ford guy but i can fix it with a little or lots of help from the ford pros on this board.
As i said its my dads truck and it would mean a lot to get it going for him as well as he has been driving a f150 of one year or another for over 40 years that he has driven.
I am truly sorry for all of the questions here tonight, just need to get this truck back on the road.

The EEC(computer) or cam need to be changed or injectors be rewired,, those are the options. If you truck is an Automatic then I doubt the EEC will work with the 95 tranny. And rewiring may take as long as putting another cam...
