I have a 1993 ford f150 with a 2wd 5 speed trans and a inline 6. I am wanting to turn it into a 4x4 and can do pretty much all the work. I have never done anything like this so any information on what's parts I should use would be great. What trans and tcase should I get. I have seen another thread about using a zf-5 trans with a ford bronco tcase, is this a good idea or should I go a different route. And would I need to change both axels or just the front. Iv also thought about going with dodge axels could this be a good idea, if so what trans and tcase set up would I need for these
Usually when these questions arise the suggestion is to just purchase a 4x4.
You should go to a salvage yard and pick up a donor vehicle so you can swap parts.
For us to write down a parts list for you would be a very long and involved list. It's really something the person doing the work needs to dig in to. A donor vehicle allows you to just grab a part from the donor and install if your truck doesn't have it.
If you are really going forward with this endeavor, you need to start researching by ways more than a form asking for what parts are necessary.
It will not be an easy project but with determination, time and a thick wallet you'll get there!
Good luck though. I'd like to see somebody go through with it someday but any thread for how to convert doesn't usually last. Not sure if the person doesn't appreciate hearing that there is more involved than expected or maybe they haven't returned because they are still wrenching and making it happen!
If you go through the work why end up with a factory truck just buy one ,but if you do all the work then build it , a set of coil overs a straight front axle a aftermarket case
Leave as it is. The project is not worth it. Buy a 4X4 if you need one.
Thats the easy way but some of us like to do stuff like this its worth it to have something to work on turn wrenches and be proud of your work,I've built several in my life I'm just finishing a samurai every nut and bolt turned and its what I do instead of watching tv I'm in the garage turning my wrenches worth it or not

The problem with this is he is dealing with a $1500 truck and likely won't change much after putting lots of money and effort into it. If you are going to do a project, it is wise to start with a vehicle having some kind of potential. This would be a money pit.
