Default 20" wheels.

Hi first time posting, long time reader of this great forum.

I got a 1991 SCab long box 2wd 5L auto

Plan to lower the truck in the future with DJM's 3/4 kit(I drive over a lot of rough roads heading to the place I work at so 3/5 might be too low).

I would like it to corner better as there is a lot of on/off-ramp corners where I normally drive. So wider tires should help in that regard. I know it's a big truck and will never corner like a sports car, but it would be nice to corner better.

I was brain storming and number crunching just now. Well, BMW X5's staggered 20" tire sizes(275/40r20 front and 315/35r20 rear) are the same height(1/4" difference) almost as the factory size (235/75r15)for my truck. I realize it will be alot of fender and radius arm issues with such wide tires, but I would like to tackle this at some point in the future.

My main question is: what offset and backspacing would be optimal?

Or has anybody in this forum ever gone bigger than 17" wheels for these year trucks? I already got a rim and tire package picked out (not yet purchased though) for 17" sizes, but this thought seemed quite good. But if it is not feasible, i'll just go with the 17"(17x8 wheels all around, 235/60r17 front and 275/55r17 rear) package.

Sorry for the long post, but I figured all the info would be necessary for the most part. :P

Thanks in advance for any help.

You can put a 265 on the front with 17x8s and not rub. Stock backspacing is 4.5inches I think.

True, that would be equivalent to 10" wide. A 265 size for the tires I have my eye on though only come in 65 or 70 series, still useable, but 1-1/2" too tall compared to the 275 width I want to use in the rear. The tires are Goodyear Fortera Tripletred. Reason for tire choice: it rains here in Vancouver 200+ days of the year and for a truck these seemed the best wet/dry type from what i've looked at in 17" sizes.

Quick Reply: 20" wheels.
