1995 f150 hard shift problems
Hello, I have a 1995 f150 that I have been trying to fix up. It is a 5.8 with the e4od with 221k miles. I have been working on the same issue for about 6 months now with no luck. The truck shifts really hard and jerks when put into any gear, especially reverse. When driving down the road, it's shifts between 1st and 2nd very hard, then the other gears not as hard, but harder than it should. Any time that you stop, when you give it gas it stutters for a few seconds before it picks back up and sometimes even dies. The speedometer also bounces from one end to the other. I have tried replacing the rear speed sensor, u joints, and the tps to see if this fixed the problem but haven't had any luck. I feel like all of these issues are due to the same problem but I'm running out of ideas. One thing that I have been thinking about is the excessive play that was in the u joints when I bought it. If spun by hand, the drive shaft would spin nearly half of a turn. Is it possible that the bearings in the rear end are shot and causing all of this? Thank you!
I dunno, the rear end on my '87 is like that. I'm sure it is worn out, but it isn't showing the other symptoms. Since it is a farm truck and only hits the streets when my '96 is tied up, I'll run it till it pops. The "PSOM" (Programmable Speedometer Odometer Module) might be causing it, shift problems usually present with it. Though I have no idea where it is, or what to do about it.
