Default 1995 E4OD Leak

Hello all,

I've noticed my transmission seems to have a bit of a leak, usually just a drop or two over night but enough that it has begun to accumulate on the driveway.

The transmission shifts fine and I'm keeping a close eye on the fluid levels. Will it be OK to drive on a 500 mile trip back home for the holidays? I don't want to tear anything up, but I'm supposed to leave tomorrow and I don't really have time to get it fixed.

Also, I believe it is leaking from one of the seals, either on the T-case side or the engine side but I have not gotten a chance to get under there and look. Anyone have experience with these problems?

Just check to make sure it's not leaking on your "HOT" exhaust...that would be a bad thing....

No, mainly leaking on a frame crossmember and transfer case skid plate.

Update:

It appears the leak is between the engine and transmission, so it could either be the rear main seal or the front seal on the transmission. I'm going to have a mechanic clean the transmission and see which it is. Hopefully it is the rear main seal as it doesn't leak much and I could just keep an eye on the fluid levels. If it is the transmission seal I could be on the hook for a $1k repair bill. Ugh, sometimes I hate old trucks.
