1994 running problem

1994 running problem
hello i have bought a 1994 f150 xlt with 302 ,automatic trans heres the problem,i can drive the truck for awhile runs good,then all of asudden it falls on its face starts running like crap barley running,check engine light comes on then all of a sudden it clears up runs good it has done this afew times,every time i take it to the garage it shows no info on computor,also the trans is getting bad it goes back and forth into over drive to third, does anyoone have aclue thanks big dave.
