Hey all. I have a 1994 F150 with a 5.0 and E40D around 133K miles. It has never given me any problems until recently.
It will start when it sits overnight, but RPMs are very high. On start up RPMs are around 1800, then after a minute down to 1500, and after it warms up they stay around 1200 rpms even after in the normal operating temp for 10 minutes.
When I turn the engine off and try to start it again, it acts like it wants to start the first attempt, then after it doesn't want to start. I can get it to start, but I have to floor the gas pedal 3 times for about 1-2 seconds. Starter turns as it should.
I hear the fuel pumps enguage and cut off as normal when I turn the key, and have fuel when I press the relief valve on the fuel rail. If I had a pressure Guage I'd post the pressures KOEO and KOER but I don't have one yet. All fluids are good. Fuel filter replaced 3-5K miles ago at most. Fuel is fresh. Happens on both fuel tanks, and when the engine is running both fuel tanks work as they should.
I found a YouTube video with similar symptoms, and the culprit was a bad coolant temperature sensor. Does this sound right to y'all?
Was ganna order the parts and give it a shot, but figured I'd reach out on the forum and see if anyone had the same problem.
I also have zero check engine light. The check engine light works as it displays when you turn the key on for a normal start up. I will try to pull the codes this afternoon and see if they are any stored.
