Default 84 F150 air conditioner

Hi, I have a 84 F150 with air conditioning problems. I have had the truck for a few years. I decided to see if the air conditioning would work, so I put on a belt, checked the oil level by removing the plug on the side of pump, then I put a little propane in the system to see if it would get cold. I put a thermometer in the vent and it went down to 55 degrees from 85 degrees. The problem is as soon as I put in some propane the pump started to turn really hard,
and makes the belt slip. What can be the problem?

Well first thing wrong was putting propane in there, it probably needs leak tested, and converted to r134 and charged

Ok, I let out the propane, put in a can of oil and a can of R134, but the pump started to turn hard as soon as the 134 started going in. Does the truck have an orfice tube that could be plugged?

Have you vacuumed the system down before adding stuff? and yes there is a screen in the system on a line from the chamber next to the firewall (I think it is called expansion chamber) screen is this one on ebay from JC Whitney:
