Default Heater / AC Fan Noise

When I turn off the fan (heat, defrost, AC) I hear a rumble, tumble. Not actually electrical I think, just a rumble while the fan shuts down.

If the fan kaput? 1990 F-150 XLT Lariet 4x4, nice truck but the fan noise if bothering me. Fan does work fine, just that darn rumble.

I had a noise coming from a blower fan once, I pulled the fan out and it had three packing peanuts in it. Don't know how they got in there, but that was definitely a first and only for me.

Yeah they fill up easy with crud and leafs in there. When I start hearing the crackle of leafs against my fan I turn it on high to eventually break em down and chop em up when they blow out the vents.

But if you are curious pull the blower motor out and inspect it. The plastic fan cages do break and can cause imbalance and check the motor has no excessive play in the shaft, should be a tiny bit back and forth only.

Thanks Guys!

A dumb question, "Do you remove the fan from under the hood?"

Depending on it's location it could be under the hood on the right side or on the right side passenger compartment under the dash. It's been such a long time since I worked on an older F150 I can't give an exact location, hope this helps.

Its under the hood at the passenger side. 4-5 screws and a vent tube hold it in place.
