Default Whats going on here? Harness at the T case

I just got this 1991 and I noticed this harness assembly hanging out by the T Case. Some wires cut and twisted together, also looks like a couple were crimped together.

I am new to these trucks, and have no idea what this is, why it was done, what its for.. etc.,.

If it works the way it is, fine. But you'll want to do a little better job on the connections.
Somebody changed a shift motor or something - looks like they were in a bit of a hurry.

So those plugs are dead ends? Just do them right and tuck them away?

Thanks

24 years - all kinds of things could have been changed, transmission, transfer case, who knows.
If it works properly the way it is, tape them up and leave it alone. If it doesn't work, then you have some investigating to do.
Is your transfer case manual shift ? That would explain a couple of extra plugs if it used to be electric.
