Default Mustang 5 speed in my 2wd Bronco

The rebuilt AOD is making a buzzing sound that I can feel up through the column so I am thinking its time for a manual trans, the AOD should have been trashed since the previous rebuild was a mess but I want to shift gears now and thinking about a Mustang T-5. I do not want to use the M5OD or what ever its called due to first being almost a granny gear but what would I need to do to stick a Mustang T-5 in it,if I remember correctly the fox body used a cable to operate the clutch but did a van with a manual trans have a external slave cylinder that could be adapted to the Mustang bellhousing.

There are kits to convert pretty much any mustang cable clutch to a hydraulic one. You'll probably have to fabricate a trans mount that will work, possibly a custom driveshaft, cut a hole in the floor, and fabricate a way to mount that long of a shifter to the trans.

Not all the M5ODs have a granny low first, just the HDs. The T5 has the shifter further back, probably about a foot.

I do not think the shifter on a Mustang T-5 will be too much of a problem in a bronco and if it is a S10 tailshaft housing and shifter will fix that problem,if all M5ODs do not have a granny type first gear how can they be identified. The one I had in my 95 was close to a granny gear and not exactly like the 4 speed in my 66 F250 but it was enough that i started out in second without a load in it.

250s and 350s get HDs, not many 150s got them.

It seemed like my 95 f150 had somewhat of a granny gear in first but I never did check the rear end ratio,it took off good in second so if i use a M5OD I could put more of a highway gear in to lessen the high first gear ratio that trans seems to have. It did not seem like a full on granny gear but did not seem like it was too far behind.

I have found a 89 that I can get all I need to convert to a manual trans,if I do use the M5OD I am going to install the 81 9 inch that has 2.75 gears and not use 5th much.

'92-'96 are stronger, but '88-'91 have a mechanical speedometer. You can use the speedometer parts from an older to make the newer have a mechanical speedometer though.

Why get a rear that you have to convert to make work? Ford had the 2.73. I have it in my 95. 5th gear is your Hwy friend. It allowed for higher top speed than any other ford rear end. It struggles a bit pulling out in first with a load, but I also get 21mpg. I'd lose at least 2-3 mpg with any lower gear.
