Default 4speed swap for 5speed

I have a 1987 F150 XLT-Lariat 2WD with a 4speed manual transmission. Does anyone know if the 4speed can be swapped out for a 5speed?

I'm interested in replacing my 4speed for a 5speed with the hope of better gas mileage. Any thoughts?
