Default Shock Help

Planning to do a minor upgrade on my 93 2wd 5.0 Xlt Standard Cab LWB and need some help choosing the right shocks, but can't really find the answers I'm looking for so I thought I'd ask around here... hopefully, you all can help me out!!

I have already decided to do the swap on the front coils from stock to the Moog CC844 coils and was wondering if you all could help me choose the right shocks, with some explanation, for what I want. I have some mild power upgrades in mind for the future of my truck and it will remain primarily daily driver status, but I am also planning on upgrading the wheels to a 16" rim as well in the near future. How do I go about choosing the best shock for my application??

I have in mind using Skyjacker's Hydro 7000, Nitro 8000 or M9558/M9552 Monotubes. I have always been impressed by Skyjacker's equipment, but I'm also open to other comparable choices. I just want to stiffen her up a bit and with the coils, if I've read other threads right, I should get some desired leveling effect on the front end.

Can anyone with more suspension knowledge help me out here?? Anything you all can offer would be great!!

Thanks, Mike

I rec omen Pro Comp shocks. They are the best bang for the buck in my opinion. I am running the es9000. They are basically equivalent to the ranchos you mentioned. They are progressive dampening and the responsive valve system works well on and off road. I run mostly highway driving with trails on the weekend and these shocks have performed well. I recommended using shocks designed for a 3" lift with the moog or 250 coils. It allows for more suspension travel and eliminates bottoming. I had the shocks hitting st both top and bottom when I first changed my springs. Finally make sure to get a good alignment even if it looks OK. You will appreciate the difference and the tire life. If you haven't done so already, freshen up your steering and suspension. Make sure you get new rubber spacers when you do the springs or they will squeak all the time.

Well, I went with the M9558/M9552 Combo from Skyjacker which I was told should be good for 2" of lift. That should be plenty since all I'm really doing is leveling the truck. I will try and post some before and after pics to show the results once everything comes in and I get it installed. Hopefully, the wait isn't too long as I was told that the rear shocks were back-ordered. Just a waiting game now...

I have the Hydro 7000's along with Moogcc824 coils up front and it rides and corners like a dream. Way better than the original houseboat it used to be. My vote is on the Hydro's though, dont go for the Nitro 8000's as they are stiffer than the Hydro's. And since you are putting Moogcc844's on there, the 8000's will make it super stiff. So Moogcc844's and Hydro 7000's would be a good match. Either those or get some adjustable shock like the Rancho RS9000's.

Went with Skyjacker's M9558/M9552 Monotubes and Moog CC844 Coils... will post an update as to how everything reacts once I get it all installed and test it out a bit.

Thanks to all for the information and help...

Hey yall i have the same truck as mike just a year older, 92, and i have a couple questions. Do the moog CC844's level the truck out with the normal leaf springs in the rear? My truck is literaly a living wonder, i pulled it out of a scrapyard last winter and spent te whole summer rezurecting it. The one thing that still really needs to be done is the suspension; all the shocks and springs are original. But i just got a set of standard shocks for it off of another f150 of the same style and they look great but if i put them on with the moogCC844's will it really bottom out all the time? And if i buy bigger shocks like yall were saying will i need bigger ones for both the front and the rear or can i get away with just the front?

Shocks stabilize, they don't lift.

It didn't quite level the truck out but it sure helped get it closer with the 844s... I used skyjacker monotube shocks on all 4 corners and the handling was much improved overall... the only thing I might have done different was go with an overload shock of some kind in the rear for when I have the 4 wheeler or dirt bike + gear loaded up because she did struggle just a touch with that... other than that everything is good to go and without a heavy load was just what I wanted...

Best of Luck,
Mike
