Default 351w Engine swap build

Hello everyone! I am new here, so bare with me please. I have a 1990 f150 with a 300 i6 that i am swapping out for a 351w. I am aiming for a high torque towing motor for towing trailers on occasion. The highest i would ever rev it would be 5500 or so. I was thinking:
- 351w shortblock
- AFR 165 street ported heads
- Edelbrock Performer RPM intake
- 1.5" Long tube headers

I am also planning on using the Holley Sniper EFI (not in question, i am using this).

So what should i change or add to make the most torque out of this motor i the rpm range i would use most. Cruising rpm is 2500 at 70mph.

If you are wanting to make low end torque you may want to rethink the ported heads and the RPM intake. Those are more for top end power. LT headers and the right cam will help for sure. Call a company like Comp Cams and let them know what you are trying to accomplish and they can recommend the right cam for you. The stock 351W intake is all about low end torque so you may consider keep that.

Good Luck

The cam I wad looking at was the comp 4x4 256h cam. It's 212* in duration and 218 exh duration with 110 lobe separation. I figure that and maybe the performer intake would be a potent combo for low end rather than the performer rpm.

Forget what I said on the intake. Forgot you aren't using the stock efi truck intake. What's the reason for adding the aftermarket efi.

the performer intake will be a better choice than the RPM intake for sure.

Really I just wanted to try something different and simple/unique. I heard the rpm will make pretty close to the same torque down low as the performer while gaining up high. I don't know how true that is though. Also, I was looking at the comp cams xe260h-10 and x4262h-11. I don't want my truck have a lot of lope, but I do want a noticeable idle. Would the 260 have any lope to it?

I would call Edelbrock on the intake to see what they say. The cam I got from Comp Cams sounds great at idle especially with the LT headers and it still works with the stock EFI setup. If you want and can get the spec off the cam spec sheet when I get home.

If you do't already have the heads I would maybe step up to the 170's. Other than that your cam choice is gonna be most important. I would call someone on that. You'll need a lot of info to give them for a proper suggestion like weight, trans, rear gear compression ratio and some other info. I think some cam sites will have a form to fill out. Good luck..
