This is why I take payload numbers with a grain of salt no way a minivan can handle the load like a truck, the numbers are bogus

Baloney.

I have owned minivans from 1988 through 2009 models, and they all had enough payload capacity to haul 8 people plus a turtle full of luggage and tools and other stuff, plus drag a small trailer without being overloaded. My F-150 is overloaded with just me and Sweetheart and Rover, a few tools and 650 pounds of hitch weight.

Don't poo poo a minivan if you aren't familiar with them other than the mistaken impression that's they're only good to use as kid hauler.

The main thing that makes a modern minivan not ideal for towing a trailer is the front wheel drive. Ford and GM stopped making the truck-based RWD minivans years ago, and those were good for towing smaller trailers.

LOL, your reply is laughable.

You were golden until this...why does a FWD tow any different than a RWD vehicle? I think where the real issue lies is the lack of a full FRAME on minivans. Unibody vehicles just can't handle the same stresses that a body on frame vehicle can.

My truck is 1490# and my wife's minivan is 1312#.

Though the manual says no more than 400# of tongue weight.........
