Tow/haul doesnt downshift, ever

Yes. Higher rpms between shifts will lower mpgs even without a trailer.

Both my 2009 and my 2012 will down shift when you tap the brakes if needed. I find this will generally only happen on a really steep grade at slower speeds. I have never noticed it do this at highway speeds, mind you I am not travelling in the mountains. If you want to test this hook up your trailer and drive down a really steep grade. Apologies if you have already tried this but I do find it has to be quite steep with a heavy load.

YOU GUYS WON'T BELIEVE THIS!
I just found out my truck had a Jet Performance chip in it. I bought the truck used from a Non-ford dealer last summer. Yesterday I took out the Jet Performance chip. Hooked the battery back up again and did the Ford Battery Relearn procedure in the manual. Now driving around Fort Worth, Texas with the performance chip out, even on the slightest slightest grade, I can keep my truck in a lower gear going up and tapped the brakes going down and it will downshift and keep higher revs. It was as simple as removing the Jet performance shift points. With the Jet Performance chip in, all the TOW/HAUL button did was turn a light on on my dash. I was so confused and frustrated my truck wasn't acting like everyone else's.
I guess Jet performance engineers don't tow anything! Would be nice to have the gain in HP with the chip. But I think decelerating better and avoiding transmission with shifting out of overdrive, is cheaper in the end. ( I replaced a transmission in an S-10 Blazer 10 years ago due to towing). I guess when my boat is parked for the winter I can put the chip back in and see which gives better gas mileage.
Any thoughts?

Well... It's a formality in the a use of a word. Maybe the correct term is a module.
It looks like this: http://www.autotrucktoys.com/ford_mu...ordModels2.jpg
But yes. I removed the "module" and all is well. Thank you SO MUCH Jet Performance Engineers for not thinking it through by changing shift points in the TOW/HAUL mode! Your over paid
