Default 2015 F150 limited to 25mph uphill?

I have a 15 F150 5.0L w/ 3.73.

Towing a boat trailer which weighs in about 5000 lbs and the truck seems to limit itself to 25mph when towing up a steep hill.

The engine has plenty of power to pull faster, but when I try to accelerate its easy to tell the computer is limiting my rpm and speed.

Any idea why the truck would be limiting my speed going uphill? I believe the grade in question is listed at 9°.

We need more info. When you are able only to do 25mph going uphill, what rpm are you at? Are the trailer brakes dragging? That's not normal. With a 7x14 flat nosed cargo trailer loaded to the max (7k) maybe a tad more. Driving on the PA turnpike pulling the hills in a 5.0 3.73 crew cab I feel it back there but it doesn't slow down past 65mph in the 70mph zones.

The engine rpms have remained low, around 2000-2500 for the majority of the hill. Even if I floor it the computer seems to be limiting the rpms to stay low.

The trailer has surge brakes which are not dragging.

I didnt think this was normal but wanted to get some feedback before stopping by the dealership.

Definitely not normal.

Try taking out of T/H mode. May help until you get to a dealer.

Was it super windy? Maybe the away control is malfunctioning.

Nah no wind at all, was actually a great day for boating.... 85 degrees and no wind.

I did have it in tow mode just because it seems lime a good idea when towing over hills.

Havent tried going over that mountain without tow mode.

What gear were you in? Drop down a gear manually and get the rpm's up to 3 or 4K. A 9 degree slope is pretty steep and not something normally seen on main roads. There is a hill about that steep leading into my neighborhood. About 25 mph is as fast as anyone needs to be driving here anyway.

Were you on gravel? Possibly traction control kicking in?

Did you buy the truck used? The My Key feature may be limiting the function of the accelerator....

I bought the truck new. Curious how MyKey would limit the accelerator though? It's something to check if that could be a factor.

I drove the boat over the same hill today and the truck behaved the same way. It's technically not limiting me to 25mph, rather it's limiting me to 2500rpm in 2nd gear which just happens to be 25mph for most of the hill.

When I manually downshift to 1st it allows the RPMs to behave as normal.

When the grade of the hill got to 8 degrees there were no restricitions on RPM and the truck accelerated just fine (easy to see there's plenty of power that the computer just isn't letting loose).

Typically its something that would be run on a lease vehicle to prevent wear & tear by careless drivers. these are just a few feature that can be set:

MYKEY FEATURES

MyKey helps encourage responsible driving by letting you:
  • Set the maximum speed limit, up to 80 mph
  • Set the maximum audio volume, up to 45% of the maximum

When MyKey is active, it:
  • Makes the Belt-Minder® warning chime until the safety belts are buckled
  • Mutes the audio system until the safety belts are buckled
  • Turns the low-fuel light on 25 miles sooner, at 75 miles to empty
