I mean it would take the entire rest of the time I'm going to own this truck(about 9 more years), just to recover the investment cost if I'm only going to see 1 mile per gallon increase in fuel mileage. Then there is the whole warranty "issues" thing....................

P.S. I am painfully aware of how much I paid for this truck, and I think about every time I open the door.
Do not get a tune just hoping for mileage increases. Get a tune because it makes the truck much more enjoyable to drive.

If you read my OP, increased efficiency is the ONLY reason I wanted to buy a "tune". This truck already has more power and performance than I will ever use on a regular basis. I would have bought a 3.7 except you cannot get it in a loaded-up model, and it doesn't get much, if any better mileage in the type of driving I do(core urban). The 5.0L was(for me) the best of the bad choices. I'm too old for unheated or cooled seats and no MFT w/nav, so my options were sort of limited.

The right performance tune not only makes your truck a pleasure to drive, but gets better fuel mileage when driven conservatively. Taking it to the track is not necessary. I drive conservatively most of the time and cannot stand the stock tune for throttle delay and poor shifting characteristics. For you, it sounds like an 87 octane street or tow tune would be all you need.

I did read your post. Read mine. I'm telling you that if you are so concerned with recouping your investment on a tuner with a minute increase in gas mileage you will probably be frustrated and disappointed. IMO it's not worth getting a tune just for gas mileage. Others may claim it is, but I live in the real world.

It's a useful argumentative tool when justifying the cost to one's SO, but we all know it's about fun not MPG.

I went back and re-read your post. Now I see what you were saying, and I apologize. I will take your advice and not buy a tune because I will not be happy or ever recover my initial investment. If a person just wants to make their vehicle perform in a way they perceive to be better, no matter what the costs, that's their business. I guess I thought there would be a way to make my truck more efficient, but not if I can't even make the investment pay for it's self. Part of my problem is I only put on about 6k to 8k miles per year, so investments for gain take a long time to be realized.

If you are only driving your truck that much in a year (like me) it is basically a toy and made to have fun with.
