I believe that Ford got the build right with the 2.7L also.

Ford F150 ecoboost towing heavy - YouTube

There is not a huge difference under heavy load, it takes the same amount of power to move a heavy load, and the engine with the lowest BSFC generally does best. The Eco and 3.5 would be comparable IMO. Not likely the 5.0 would be much different.
Our trailer is uniquely un-aerodynamic as well, and I generally drive very aggressively, and accelerating, passing and climbing is done at normal rates of speed and or WOT.

You could be bashing GM's for all I care, it's the inaccuracy that turns the discussion to garbage. As in repeating someone else's BS, and you can't remember where it happened". It's called hearsay, and if you don't realize that starting internet rumours that are unsubstantiated, well, it diminishes the whole site. Some of us like proof and accuracy.
And grow up, calling me angry doesn't build you up, make a point, or diminish the point I'm making. Suck it up, buttercup.

Thanks for proving my point about taking it personally genius. this isnt some "internet rumour", its just life and reality which apparently you're too butthurt to handle. And whether the batch thing was true or not shouldnt even matter to you; it has nothing to do with the state of your own 3.7 and I never suggested that yours will start knocking or that its a widespread problem so give it a damn rest. Its ironic that you accuse me of having an agenda when it sounds more like you do. I'm not the one insinuating that FORD mass produced a v6 gas engine with an exact 100% no-knock/piston slap rate, and that anyone who says its 99.9% is a rumor starter. LOL. Grow up. History proves your claim likely inaccurate so you certainly didn't diminish any point I've made.

I've got the 3.7.

The power is fine, ive had my truck loaded to the gills with people and camping equipment and it still had enough power for passing on the freeway.

Unless you plan on towing regularly get the 3.7. 300 hp will get the job done and its the most fuel efficient motor in the line up.

The 5.0 is just extra motor for the job and a luxury if your not regularly towing

Also: My dad has a 5.0, I have the 3.7. His gets 14 mpg average for the life of his truck, mine is sitting at 19. If your commuting in the vehicle, it makes the most sense to get the most fuel efficient option.

Hi new member here. 2013 3.7 4x4 cab and a half. If i really go for gas milage ive seen 812 miles (1300kms) on one tank mostly hi way. I use this truck to commute 100 miles/day and I tow atvs snowmobiles and a 29 ft 4700lbs camper on occasion. The only truck I know of getting better milage than this one is the eco diesel.

My 3.7 is pretty decent in the city 18mpg cdn but the highway mileage is quite a bit off from the rating.I think the 5.0 gets the same on the highway.I do 95% city driving that's why I went with the 3.7.

All summer our one 3.7L states on the dash 20.5 MPG. I know it is a couple tenths better calculated.

You can get a killer deal on a used f150 v6 as most of the truck owners who don't go ecoboost are "traditional" and want a v8, just because that's what they think a truck should have. Not saying that's good or bad - but for you...

Buying a v6=bargain
When you sell v6, more depreciation and smaller market to sell to...

The v6 is more than capable to do basic truck stuff. You won't win races but sounds like you are practical and 1/4 isn't a buying objective.
