It appears you have a reading disability. What I said was before the OP said he only ran it a mile. If the OP had ran the truck pulling 6000 lbs between Salt Lake city and Denver and THEN found out he had the wrong weight in his truck he could very well demand a a full inspection given the manual says in BLACK and WHITE that running the wrong oil puts your ENGINE AND WARRANTY at risk. Their is not a judge in America that would not side with the OP in finding out if any engine damage had occurred, and then made whole again.

Rule #1: Don't panic. OK, the dealer used the wrong oil & filter. This is not going to be a big deal for a short run -- there is still oil in the engine and a filter there, it's just not the recommended weight oil and the new filter (probably 5 micron). You could probably run that oil and filter for years without any ill effects. Probably. But towing 3 tons makes it slightly less probable, and of course if you did have a lubrication failure Ford would point to that as the likely cause. But your engine isn't going to shell itself on the drive back to the dealer to have them fix their mistake.

You know it was done wrong, and the dealer has an obligation to fix it. They need to do another oil change, this time with the proper oil and filter. Certainly before you tow for any substantial distance. If they balk, call Ford and tell them about it.

Of course you should be pissed! You paid some one to do a simple job correctly and they messed it up! It would seem that if the company has any sort of integrity the least they should do is ask you to come back so they could make good on their mistake. I hope it works out for you!

I would get it changed ASAP. DI engines dilute and shear oil like crazy and there is no way I would be towing with the wrong oil in my $30+k DI motor truck.

I would not worry about engine damage. There is very little difference between the two oils at operating temperatures. The ecoboost has a thermostatically controlled oil cooler to keep the oil at normal operating temperature around 212 degrees.

I would have them change it because you paid for a service, you got the money right, they should get the oil right.

The problem with forming an opinion based on that article is that it is outdated information and doesn't account for direct injection and the inherent problems with fuel dilution and shearing that seems to happen in all DI engines. Look at some UOAs on the Mazda DISI engines (the EcoBoost test bed) and tell me you would feel fine feeding your EB F-150 5W-20 and towing with it.

This is EXACTLY why I change oil at home! Engine gets exactly what the manufacturer recommends and torque wrenches are used where directed. Never a problem.

I dont have an eco and I know if it was my truck I would take back to the dealer and have them correct the mistake. Its human error. Like others have said you didnt go long distance or run under load. You have oil in the truck and that is most important. I like the guy who said first dont panic. You have oil in the truck and thats a good thing. Im sure they will take care of you.
