Rerasons your 5.0 is not taking to timing on 96 performance tune:
1)Fuel octane is too low
2)excessive oil consumption is lowering effective octane of your fuel
3)Spark plugs excessively high heat range?
Is this a tune that requires 93 octane fuel?

Update:
Still working with MPT on the 93 Performance tune. We are now on revision #5. Still have some pinging at low and hi rpms.
Tuner says my 5.0 is not taking to timing like other 5.0s he has tuned.
Why do you think he has to pull more and more timing for my engine? I am losing power every time he pulls timing.

When i logged my performance tune it would not register in the LiveWire software since the knock sensors were set to "global" from what i was told. They said this is how all of the performance tunes were setup. Curious...

When you are datalogging, does the knock sensor parameter register?

2. Change fuel stations.
3. Time for a general tune up. Make sure to include cleaning of the MAF sensor in your tune-up.
4. If you have e85 in your area, try a tank for two reasons:
a) It's a damn good, if not the best, fuel injector/system cleaner
b) if you still get knock running e85 on a 93 tune then it's not a fuel related issue (your knock sensors might be over sensitive or a mechanical problem). Yes, you can run e85 on a gas tune with these trucks, I do it all the time.

So ,I have been thinking about a tune for my 5.0 also. Should I go with the SCTx4 or x3?
Also 5star offers the x4 w/5custom tunes preloaded for $449, but Stage3 offers the same thing for $449 with free tunes for life. MPT is $399 for x4 w/3custom tunes or $429 for 5 custom tunes, but not for life. Or i can get the x3 with 5 custom tunes for $379. With 5star you don't have to wait for the tunes to come in a e-mail like you do with MPT. What do you all recommend since I do not have a Hand held device yet?

^ tough choice. I have 5* and MPT tunes for my 5.0. Both GREAT tunes. In my opinion one is not 'better' than the other. Just a bit different driving experiences. The MPT is nice and more civilized for day to day driving. The 5* is a bit more aggressive and seems more 'eager' to rev. I do have to say that the throttle response with the 5* is much more responsive.

5* is 91 Performance. MPT is 93 Performance. Both have 'street' transmission mapping. I do think part of the improved throttle response with the 5* 91 was in part because I generally use ethanol free fuel. I tried the MPT tune for a awhile and had to use fuel with ethanol.
