I understand people like what they like, and that is fine, I'm happy so many people are happy with the eco boost, but for me persoanlly, it was never an option.
Ughh..so tired of these luddites that call the v6 little. I don't want to be the person to derail this thread...but the ecoboost makes considerably more power once you spend $400 on a tuner. The normally aspirated v8 is a thing of the past. No exaggeration, they won't exist on the ford half ton line in a matter of years.

IMO, don't even worry about what engine is in it, go with the best looking, beast deal, and lowest mileage

Probably because it costs more up front.

No more than they are ditching the 3.5 currently. They're ditching the 5.0 for, apparently, a slightly smaller v8 with presumably more tech. Just like they ditched the gen1 eb in favor of the gen2.

It might help the OP if you let us know why you made the switch.

In #20, you're comparing the two and in #21 I'm assuming you're stating that the blower is your reason it's your favorite.

If you want it to!

That's certainly one way to look at it. There's a reason why there's a $1,500+ upcharge if you want the ecoboost motor from the factory instead of the 5.0

I'd hardly say they are "ditching" the 3.5, the motor's displacement is remaining the same. Gen 1 vs Gen 2 of the same motor is still the same motor with improvements.

I've got a strong suspicion that as time continues to go on, the normally aspirated higher displacement motors in Ford's half ton line will continue to be overshadowed by it's turbocharged counterpart; combine that with more and more regulations till it's eventually gone.

That's my opinion on it though!

My intent was to provide the OP with the information that both engine configurations have the potential to have problems, both configurations DO have problems if you're unlucky, and that remarks many users make implying that the 3.5's are plagued by issues is simply incorrect.

most of the ecoboost haters seem to think that more tech is bad. Guess it will be just fine as long as there are no turbo's attached to it.

Not sure on all years, but in 2014, the 5.0 was $750 above the base motor option and the Eco was $1350. You were paying $600 for 5 more hp and 40 more lb-ft of torque. Most people just look at the peak numbers, but consider when you're getting the power throughout the rpm range. Most see and feel the gains of the eco, because of where they are in the rpm range.

That's why you need to drive them to decide for yourself. You will likely prefer the power curve of one over the other as they are certainly different.

I can't imagine why anyone would prefer to press the skinny pedal more.......
