If the Feds didn't enforce CAFE we wouldn't have the ecoboost at all, but you would be able to buy a loaded truck for $40k instead of 60.

With the recent enforcement of the rules with VW, I can't see them backing off with EPA at all. If they did, the Manufacturers would likely come back at them.

This^^
And we would possibly have a 5.0 V8 twin turbo by now on top of that or still the 6.2 (even tho me myself was never a huge fan of that engine, felt it was a bit of a underperformer for its size)

So I've came across 2 2014 trucks I'm considering and ones a ecoboost and one a 5.0. Both are pretty close in price the 5.0 might be $1k less. Money aside which would you get?

Hi, this depends on how you are going to use this truck. I bought my Ecoboost for the purpose of towing my travel trailer and have the ability to maintain it's power in high altitudes. My previous tow vehicle started at around 300 horse power and went down to about 200 horse power in the mountains. If I just wanted a truck for everyday use, I would probably get the V-8.

For you, if all things equal it depends on your planned use of the truck. If one truck is in much better condition, that would be the one to buy.

Take the VIN's on both trucks to a Ford dealer and get an Oasis printed so you can see what, if any, repairs were made on them.

If you want to talk about crippling emissions. My 2008 6.7 cummins was a perfect example. When it was bone stock it struggled to get 16 mph highway. And I mean that was with a very light foot and 3.42 gears. After deleting the EGR, DPF, canister, and other related emissions parts with EFI live my MPG jumped up to very close to 20. I made a trip from Virginia to NY with a 2 axle 16 foot flat bed loaded with a 1999 Cherokee and averaged just under 18mpg hand calculated driving 65 most of the way. I am all for clean air however I don't know how much the emissions are helping if it comes at the cost of burning 20-25% more fuel.
