5.0 delay down shift.

5.0 delay down shift.
I drove a 2011 5.0 4x4 yesterday to compare with my dads ecoboost. I'm getting a truck in Feb. or March. I really thinking of the 5.0. I didn't like the time it took at 55+ mph when the truck is in top gear to down shift and get moving when floored. I was wondering if that has a fix or just have to live with it.

I kinda noticed this when I got into my 5.0L originally. I don't have that issue at all anymore because I've just gotten better at predicting the pedal pressure and where I can cause a downshift. Also, the 2011 may have an older program running, so a reflash may help as mine is a 2012.
On the Ecoboost, I felt like this was almost a non factor because you could get power with increased pedal pressure when it creates boost rather than needing to downshift. So I can see what you mean, however you may just need to find your sweet spots. On cruise, that should be a non issue.

I have a 2012 5.0. I only experience the delayed shift when the vehicle is cold. I just installed the Diablo Sport intune (see my other post) and I did not experience that this morning and it was cold here in Houston. Was the truck warmed up and what gear does it have?

I have 3.73's and there's a lag in response time even with the 5-Star tune. It's better with the tune, but, it's still there. You just have to get used to IT when you go WOT. On public streets, I choose not stomp on the accelerator unless it's to avoid an accident with a train, semi, or other vehicle coming at you. Then, it could be deadly. When it does downshift, it really knows what gear to downshift to, though ... puts the right amount of power to the ground at just the right RPM.
