It's not a power or 'toughness' issue with the Raptor. It's the softness of the rear suspension & 35" tires that gives it such a low tow rating.
I towed 5,900lbs from South Jersey > Mytrle Beach, SC > South Jersey last week for mustang week with zero issues. Avg 12.5 mpg on the way down and a trip avg of 11.7 mpg due to massive traffic otw home. She handled the load exceptionally well and had more then enough power to keep up with my buddies Duramax 2500.

Yup! It's nothing against the truck at all... after all it's made for a different purpose. Some people just don't understand how suspension plays into towing capacities.

I don't get this comment... Bump stops are supposed to be used to dampen your suspension when it goes to full compression. Soooo, the raptors sag so much that you need beefed up bump stops when towing? I'm sorry, but that's silly...

You obviously haven't personally towed a heavy load with a raptor. maybe this thread will help ease your mind on what the raptor is capable of http://www.raptorforumz.com/showthre...t=10999&page=9

Its not silly, you can get specific bumps to assist towing, not just for protection from bottoming out the suspension.

I've been wanting a raptor since the day they hit the showroom floors, but two things have stopped me, the 5.5 foot bed and the lesser towing capacity. Honestly though, I wouldn't tow anything bigger than a 4,000lbs camper or load of firewood anyway..so I think I'd br safe with the 8,000lbs towing capacity after reading this and seeing other threads
