I thought I went to a ford dealer today

I can understand it too, but it was more their attitude towards me based on my age. Especially out here in Alberta where it is not uncommon for a 20 year old to be making 6 figures.

As to 'afford' well to each their own on the definition, but if it all came due today in full could you afford it? Affording payments is one thing...
FWIW - those of you making 6 figures while your young I hope your saving some of it. Impressive your doing such and if you can just sock away 10% now and invest wisely you'll have a hell of a retirement and likely be able to retire way early...

I can see why they wouldn't allow test drives to just anybody but if you showed interest in the vehicle I don't see why not?
I randomly visited a local Ford dealer on a Sunday evening just to have a peak at the 13' 150's.. I was planning to get one after xmas this year. I drove up in my 2001 muddy lifted pathfinder and a salesman DROVE up to me while I was looking at trucks with my girlfriend and said here give it a go around. Gave me the keys to a Kodiak Brown 4x4 and let me take it out without even taking my license or anything!!! I wa kinda shocked by this but hey I went for it and ended up bringing home a different 150 that same evening.
Not that the f150 xlt is anything but at a 41k sticker price letting me drive it without seeing my license/insurance shocked me...

Yup. When I bought my Ford (two weeks ago) I didn't go drive one until I was a month out from buying one. Then I didn't go near a dealer until I was sure I had enough for a down payment on it. There was no sense in going to look until I was ready to buy.

These are funny to me just because I had the opposite problem when I bought my first truck - I wanted the stripped down, white, rubber flooring, 8 foot bed, single cab F150 (at the time, I really needed an all-occasions vehicle), and they kept trying to show me the higher trims. And I don't mean just a step or two up from the XL, they were trying to show me the Harley, which had only been available for a year or two at that time.

Went to my local dealer because I had received a post card telling me that I had won a new ford fiesta. Told the sales man when I walked up that I wasn't buying but was just here to pick up my new ford fiesta. He laughed and gave me a free pearl necklace, then asked me if I had driven a new ecoboost and if I wanted to? So of course I said heck yeah. He took me out to a low traffic road and told me to stand on it. I didn't buy but I still have his card for the next time I do. It depends on the dealer. Also I am in my 60's and I think the salesman was also.

No gold teeth, but since this is Southern NM, they might have been impressed that I had teeth at all...
