Oil Pressure Question
Hey guys question for ya.
My 2000 F150 4.2 v6 oil pressure guage and light seem to have a small problem. In the mornings when I first crank it up it shows no oil pressure and the lights on.It doesn't knock or lifter tap like it's starving for oil and it's always full. The funny thing is that the oil pressure always comes up to past half way where it should be and the light goes off at the same spot(within a house or 2)every morning when I bring the kiddo to school(within 3 blocks of my house) and from that point on it works fine all day.It doesn't fluctuate at all driving in stop and go traffic redlights or anything.Every now and then if it sits 4 or 5 hours it does it again at start up but not often and it always acts normal within a few blocks.
It's been doing this for a long time( 9 months) so I know it's not major hence the urgency to actually fix it lol or I would've already spun a rod bearing or something from driving it with no oil pressure. Is it the oil sending unit? The truck has almost 172,000 miles on it.Where's the oil sending unit at on it?Can I just put an aftermarket guage in it and do away with sending unit?
Thanks for your help

Fixed it.It was the sending unit.I did alot of reading on different threads and it seems that it's a regular problem with them.I just put a manual guage in it using good copper line for durability. .The old girl now has very good oil pressure all of the time. Now I have to do something about the dummy light staying on all of the time.lol

Mine is doing the same thing and while changing the oil and filter found the pressure sending unit was leaking a little bit so that is my best educated guess and what the problem probably is. I will be replacing it as soon as it warms up a little bit more
