People with to many options these days, either get a Magnaflow or get the straight through diesel muffler buddy with the white lifted step side has.

you can't base sound off youtube videos.. they all sound different and vary from video to video. only reason to consider FM is the price.. unless the xr1 will be louder than the 6" single chamber muffler being that the xr1 will be over twice the length of fm. shorter body is louder right?

The flowmaster will probably be the loudest. I remember a buddy's car that we were working on, and old fox body Cougar with a 5.0HO in it. He first put a true dual 2.5" exhaust with cats but no mufflers on it. It was too loud, obviously, so he bought a pair of flowmasters that we welded on, and the car actually was LOUDER at anything other than idle than the same setup with no mufflers at all! Magnaflows tend to be slightly louder than Borla, which tends to be slightly louder than Dynomax. If all you care about is sound, go ahead with the 40 series, but know that it is a piece of junk and you will be replacing it in a couple years.

It all depends on what engine he has. I have the 4.6L with the flowmater 10 series, it has a nice pitch to it but it is not obnoxiously loud like my brother's truck.

You won't get a loud idle without taking out the cats I'm afraid. Even when I cut my stock muffler off and started it it wasn't very loud at idle. I have a 14" magna pack now and I like it a lot more than the 40 series I had before. It's louder, and has a much deeper tone. I'd go wity the small Borla if I were you.

It's all an opinion thing with mufflers, people who buy one generally stay with that company. If you want loud, delete the cats and straight pipe it lol.

If you want something in between, Magnaflow makes a good quality straight-through muffler for substantially less than Borla. If it was my truck, I would get an 18" Magnaflow straight-through muffler in the same diameter as the stock pipe, weld it in, and call it a day.
All of Flowmaster's stainless steel mufflers and systems are backed by our limited lifetime warranty against defects in materials and workmanship. That being said, if you purchase a stainless steel Super 10 for your truck, it will be the last muffler that you will ever have to buy for it.

Im running a Dynomax Ultraflo SS muffler on my truck, has a nice deep throaty sound and its not overly loud.
Flowmaster Super 10's are made of 409S stainless steel. If your Super 10 were to "rust out in a couple years," it would be covered by our limited lifetime warranty.

Our low prices are a terrific reason to purchase Flowmaster products, but our warranty, commitment to customer service, industry leading technology and guaranteed consistency of sound over straight through designs are just a few more.

I second this on the part about it being the last muffler you'll ever buy. Purchased mine about a month ago and couldn't be happier.

I am happy with mine as well, I can tell you if I sell the truck the stock muffler is going back on and I'm keeping my 10 series haha.
