Default Fan Motor High Speed Only

About two years ago my low speed on my fan quit working right after I had some electric brakes installed, just thought the installer cut a wire the he shouldn't have cut. I just decided to live with that way. Well today, my medium speed quit also. I still have high speed, but that is all. It looks like the fan motor only has two wires going to it ?. anyway does anyone know what to check for, and where to look ? would there be a relay to replace, or a fan switch, or should I start and replace the motor first ? Thanks in advance guys for any input. Forgot to add what my truck was, 1997 f150 Super Cab 4.6L w

Its the reluctor transducing crossover valve. Thats what it ALWAYS is on one of those no name vehicles.

Now if I knew year and trim level and believe it or not wiring diagrams can change with the engine too then I could possibly be of more help.

Didn't get help from this site, so I decided to go it alone. I purchased a electrical manual for my 97 f-150 on ebay, which is just what I needed. It shows that the fan motor is a single speed which is controlled by a block which is next to the fan under the dash. It is called the fan motor resistor, and it was very easy to change out. Mine was rusted and burned through, and now I have all three speeds on my fan, and it even runs a little in the off position, just as it should.

Do you access this block from inside the cab or under the hood?

Yes Robert, access to the resistor is from inside the vehicle. Sometimes opening the glove box door gives enough access to remove the resistor.

on my 97 F150 4x4 4.6 it is under the dash next to the glove box. Just unplug
it and it's a very easy replace and fix

Default Thanks DaleD

I followed your guidance and everything worked out perfect. You saved me some money and just in time for A/C season. Here in Minnesota, during the winter, you have to run the heater wide open most of the time anyway. Thanks again.
