Cracked intake. Its missing because it will flood the cylinder with coolant or fill the spark plug hole with coolant and short out the coil.

Is there a better replacement intake manifold that will prevent this issue?

Default question

Would it be better to replace the whole intake or just put new gaskets on the stock one? Its leaking at the coolant crossover

Reviving a dead thread, huh?
Pull the intake and just replace the gaskets? It's a gamble.
These plastic intakes are known for cracking and if yours hasn't yet, has a lot of years, miles, and heat cycles on it, it may now be brittle enough that it could crack when re-torquing. Then again, it might not and you'd be fine for a few more years.
If you decide to just replace the gaskets, don't forget the gaskets in the water crossover pipe - between the plastic and aluminum.
If you want to consider replacing the intake, check Rock Auto, At a price of about $161 it includes new gaskets installed.

In order to replace the gaskets in the crossover, the whole intake has to come out because a couple of the bolts are underneath and can't be reached.

How can you tell if it's the intake manifold, or if the problem is deeper in the heads?

Will there be exhaust gasses in the antifreeze if it is the intake manifold?

I have the same symptoms-- antifreeze on the spark plugs when I pull them out, and I can see antifreeze in the exhaust pipe.

I have a 2003 F-150 5.4, with 190,000 miles.

Thanks

I just fixed that leak on my truck. Ford designed it to where you have to remove the intake manifold off. And wear it is leaking is the intake crossover. I ended up having to to get another intake cause some of the plastic was deteriorating. The aluminum intake that is on some of the previous 2000 or 99 is a direct bolt on. Just have to move a couple hoses around.

give me the info on your motor and i can look on alldata and see what i can find
Same exact problem same type of truck. I am a back yard mechanic i put on my own alternator starter spark plugs coil packs. This replacement job looks tedious. My question is. Is the manifold heavy? I am 5ft. 150 pounds. Im thinking about weight. Can i left it out.

Default Crossover tube bolt holes

I bought a dorman because my intake was cracked. When I bought the Dorman from oreillys, two of the bolt holes that the crossover tube are supposed to bolt tube aren’t even there. I’m scared of just drilling holes and hopefully it works. Anyone have any experience or same issues with this?
