4.6L Build Thread
So the time has come to finally build an engine for my truck. I currently have the stock 2v 4.6 liter, so in order to keep this build as simple and straightforward as possible I have decided to build an aluminum block 2v 4.6L and then add boost in the future.
Why a 4.6? Well I like the idea of the lighter engine that the teksid aluminum 4.6 block allows and I like the idea of a fairly simple swap. I'd imagine the 4.6L would be better for turning higher rpm's. Other than that I'm just partial to the 4.6L. I prefer the way it sounds over the 5.4 as well but that's just me.
To start the build, I will be purchasing a 93 Lincoln MK VIII engine (possibly this afternoon). Obviously this is a 4v engine so I will have to swap heads. I'll have to take the block to a machine shop and have them drill a coolant passage for the 2v heads and possibly do some work to get a 2v front cover to fit. Depending on the condition of the engine, I may have them bore the cylinders out a bit. This will be my first step.
My next step is to buy forged parts for the bottom end. I was thinking about a MMR striker 4.75L forged rotating assembly kit. For 2099.99 it includes
Forged 4.75L 8 bolt crank capable of 1500hp
Manley 4340 forged h beam rods with arp bolts
Manley forged Pistons with tool steel pins
Total seal rings
Clevite Performance rod and main bearings
Ford racing oil pump and pickup tube
Crankshaft/balancer bolt
What do you guys think? Is this kit the way to go? I'm not too familiar with a stroked engine but from what I've read, it shouldn't cause any issues. I've heard of the 5.0 stroker causing problems with the Pistons coming too far out of the bore and causing premature wear. But with the 4.75L obviously having a shorter stroke than the 5.0 stroker, I've heard that premature wear isn't as big of an issue if it's even an issue at all. I'm okay with having the block clearanced to accept the crank if it needs it.
Pictures and updates will be posted as the project progresses. It'll be a slow process. But I'll try to regularly keep this thread updated.
Just looking for thoughts and opinions! Comment away!

This will be an awesome build! I have a buddy who has used the Striker kit and loves it.
My one question is, why the Lincoln motor? With the abundance of 4.6 out there, I'm curious as to you selection.

Good point on the price. I didn't realize they were that cheap. And you will save some weight with it as well. Very interesting build sir. Keep us updated!

So I picked up the engine today. It isn't real pretty looking but what can you expect when you get an engine like this. Tear down begins in a few hours.
Also, keep a look out in the for sale section if anyone is interested in 4v heads. I'm going to inspect them and clean them up and price accordingly.

Well after waiting on my friends who were dragging their asses (so was I but its always the other persons fault right?) we finally got the engine off the truck and onto a stand to begin tearing it down. As of right now all that I've gotten off is the entire engine harness and the fuel rails/injectors. Cleaned it up a bit. Tomorrow I will probably have the block torn down completely for a full inspection of the block.
