Default 2001 F150 oil pressure help!

I had the issue where the oil pressure gauge would read zero (or off since it's a switch) upon start up, then jump to the middle after a few minutes of driving. I replaced the sensor and cleaned the old terminals yesterday and now the gage is acting erratic. Near the end of my commute this morning, the gage would only rise to the middle when I gave it gas! it would drop to zero on idle. The oil level is properly filled so I dont know what the issue could be...Please Help!

At idle when the gauge hits zero does the engine make any abnormal noises. What I'm getting at is if you lose all oil pressure you will hear all kinds of racket coming from engine and it probably would not idle for long with no oil pressure.

Oh yeah, I forgot to add that in my OP. The truck doesn't seem to make any abnormal noises. I runs as smooth as it always does.

Just add a aftermarket oil pressure gauge. Removes all doubt.

Update: the gage was off my whole commute home. I checked everything when I got home. The sensors are cheap so I'm just going to replace it again then add the aftermarket gage. Thanks for the help!

Change the oil pressure switch. It is either clogged or faulty. It could be the in dash gauge, but the sender is more likely and quite a bit cheaper and easier to replace. That should help your problem.
