i have a 2007 f150, i recently had an issue with my 4 wheel driving wanting to automatically engage itself. I read the forum and found what the problem was, or what it could be but then it just stopped. when i was driving and the grinding was happening i would switch it into 4hi then back into 2wd. but now i tried to switch it into 4hi and nothing would happen. i can get it to go into 4lo but when i try and put it into 4hi, it would switch, i can barely hear something like it is engaging but the light doesn't come on or it might blink once but then goes off. i don't feel any difference when i put it into 4hi but i can deff. feel it when it goes into 4lo. any opinions?

It may feel like it's going into 4Lo but it's problaby just changing into the lower range gear and you still have 2Wd but in low range....I would think that your front hubs are ground up and not engaging..... you may need to pull them down and check what's the problem.

Pretty sure its a 4wd solenoid. I noticed my F150 doing a similar thing. I could switch into 4x4 low but the 4x4 high wouldn't work. I went under the hood and wiggled my 4wd solenoid around and 4x4 high seems to work. Sometimes it won't work and ill pop the hood and wiggle it again and it goes back to working. (I think mine is getting ready to go out) However it will be getting replaced whenever i find the time

thanks man. I will have to try that first. Right now though i got in my truck after work an its working. I will have to swap the solenoid an also check the hubs just to be sure

changed solenoid payed little over 100 bucks for 1/2 hour labor and a 30 dollar part and still not fixed problem
