Been on the forum for a while, first post.
I purchased 05 F150 XL Reg cab 4X4 with 21 k miles two months ago. Why would Ford put a center console without any cup holders or an opening to put your stuff in? I love everything about this truck. It is very comfortable and drives fantastic. I see that the XL does not have this option, but why? Does anyone know.

it should have 2 cup holders and a ash tray in the middle. it coems on all trucks.
smokers option is just something that added a couple additional things. it does NOT effect those two cup holders and ash tray we are talking about.

Hi folks,
my new truck has storage from hell!!! I think that I could put a small child inside the arm rest/storage box. It has 4 cup holders. Two infront and two in back. The back cup holders also has a 12 volt outlet below them.
The front cupholder has an insert for the ashtray. That is stored somewhere inside the arm rest/storage box.
Under that, there is yet another storge area, that is under the arm rest/storage box. I don't know how deep it is though. But there is a flap on the front of it that can pop off to open the "mouth" of that area even larger.
Oh yea, the cup holders... they have an insert that you can take out for larger cups and travel mugs. If you take the insert out, you can put a 40 oz bottle in it and a 2 litre pop bottle on the opposite side. I have tried and it fits.
The only thing I miss is the shifter. My previous Freestyle, it was infront of the arm rest and I used to rest my hand on the shifter while I was driving. Now, my new truck the shifter is on the steering column and I find my right hand is looking for something to rest itself on. So I find my self drumming my fingers inside the cup holder. Either that, or playing with the insert for the cupholder.
There is one thing I do miss. I had a '76 F-150 (code name "Old girl") and the back of the bench seat would fold forward. I had room enough there to put lots of stuff. I even had a floor jack in it's case. My supercrew, the back bench seems to be bolted to the back of the cab. Yes, the seats fold up. But I find that is only convenient when we go shopping for groceries.
I am still holding out for the tool box for the front of the bed of the truck. Hopefully in the stainless steel grate finish. XMas is coming... I always like to carry a few items in my vehicles in case of emergency. I think that I would put towing straps in there if I could find some of those for cheap. Those two front hooks on the front my truck look menacing.
Anyways, as I ramble on... I like the amount of storage I got and the 8 cup holders as well. One in each door, and then 4 more on the arm rest/storage box.

I found an 06 f150 brochure and it shows that if you have an XL with manual shift 4x4 you don't get the cup holders in the dash.
I just don't know why the fold down console doesn't have storage or cup holders

My 05 has the two cupholders right underneath the CD player with an ash tray in between, two in the flip down console, and two at the bottom of the console for the rear seats. Not to mention the hellacious storage inside the flip down console.
I wonder if the seat backs for the backseat fold down, or are bolted.....I do know the seat bottoms do fold up thus far.
