Rough Idle, Ticking Slight Miss! What is Wrong?
2006 F-150 FX4 5.4L Sometimes has a rough idle, ticking sound and a miss that is noticeable when I am stopped a light, etc. Also sometimes when I give it heavy throttle it will miss very badly almost feels like it's a four cylinder what is going on? Truck has 130,000 KMs or 81,000 miles. Thanks for the Help.

I have an 07 XLT SCAB and I have the same problem at idle. I know from reading multiple threads on this site that the ticking noise is caused by the injectors. Seems Ford's 5.4L V8 is very well known for loud injectors however, I think the rough idle might either be a bad injector, bad/loose spark plug, or even the plug wires themselves. I'm not a mechanic but these items seem logical. Although, I'm still under warranty so I'm going to bring it to the dealer and let them diagnose the issue. I'm just hoping I don't get the same run around with them as I have had on other issues.

I am going to attempt a plug change to see if it helps. The truck has 130000 KMs on it and I would almost bet anything they have never been done. I am using the Motorcraft plugs with the Nickel Anti-Sieze.

same hear
I had the same problem on my 07 I added sea foam to the intake and had a huge amount of **** blow out. I was talking with the mechanic I use and he said the ethanol there adding to the gas is probly the cause because it gums up the engine and the sea foam stripps it out. The know on mine was a stuck lifter and sea foam followed by restore cleared that up too. I love the stuff go to the auto parts store and take a look at sea foam the stuff works wonders. Ive used it for years.
