Default Rear seal leaking on 2006 F150

Last Thursday my truck started making a grinding noise. Looked underneath and my rear seal is leaking and the drive shift is showing about 1/2 inch of shiny metal coming from the transmission indicating that it slipped back.

Any idea of what I am looking at on this deal?

Also, I need to drive the truck for the next 2 days. If I put the truck in 4 high it does not make the grinding noise. Can I drive it or am I screwed?

Drive shaft space is fine. It flexes while hitting bumps and stuff so it will have some shiny metal showing. Mines showing a lot more cause I'm lifted. My seal is also leaking a little, not as much as yours tho. Pull the plug and the oil should be level with the bottom of the hole. If it's low fill it up and monitor it over time to see how bad the leak is.

Yea, that slip yoke looks fine to me too. If your grinding goes away in 4wd, then you're front hubs are probably trying to lock in. You'll need to check out the iwe vacuum system.

Okay so I had a mechanic check it out today. Turns out it is the rear end that is going out.
