Default Once Again.

Ok guys. 2008 F-150 4x4. Front drivers side hub assembly is going out again for the 3rd time. It has a good vacuum. But something is causing the hub to go bad. I will replace it and get about 4months out of it before I can hear it clicking and grinding again. I'm at a lost. Any ideas. Thanks.

Are you using oem parts? Is it the hub or the IWE?

Last time I did replace the IWE (which it didn't look bad) and the hub. I'm using parts from Napa. Since it's happening within a year they are replacing the parts for free!

I'm assuming you're speaking of the actuator. When you say hub, I think bearing.

No offense to NAPA (I buy most all my parts from there), but that's a Dorman part they sell. I'd see if they'd offer your money back and try am OEM actuator.

Dorman hasn't been making that part all that long and they likely reverse engineered it when they designed it. Their cam phasers for the 5.4s don't have a good track record, their actuator could be heading down the same path it appears.

It may also very well be that they just produced a bad lot group. See if your NAPA can order one from a different DC if you're willing to keep trying the Dorman part.

Ok thanks for the heads up on Napa parts. Took the hub assembly off. It has some play side to side. Is that a sign that the bearings are going bad??
