@jonnygt there is a very good HOW TO on changing out the oil pump on your S'crew 4x4 here: http://www.f150online.com/forums/v8-...-pan-pump.html

I added my "caution" about my big SCREW UP when I busted my 10340 installing it and had to buy another one real quick locally at full price! I don't want that to happen to you.

Good Luck

Default Chain tensioners

@F150 Torqued

Thanks for the link, very informative.

I see that you used the cast tensioners in place of the plastic ones. What ones are those and where did you get them?

I see that some guys are saying that the cast units from the 5.4l 2v work as replacements. Any ideas?

Thanks for your input, very appreciative.

I'm just waiting on my Cloyes timing set and Melling 10340 oil pump from Amazon, then all I need before starting the jobis deciding if I'm getting new Ford (Motorcraft) phasers or the Livernois lockout kit. What did you do on yours?

I only plan on doing this once and want to do it right the first time.

Thanks-
Jon

The cast iron (ratcheting) tensioners are from AM-Auto Parts (ebay). I think you are right, they are acctually for the 5.4L 2v, but they fit just fit. They come with a steel gasket - but the oil holes do not align with the oil holes in the block. However, the oil passageway aligns with the rear of the tensioner without the gasket and the tensioner plunger fits perfectly in the grove in the back of the tensioner arm.

I used genuine Ford Phasers from Fareway Ford through ebay. They have a 100% rating with some 56,000 feedbacks. Pretty damn respectable! And their service was outstanding for me.

Be careful not to be mesmerized by the Livernois lockout "cures everything" advertising. I'm not a fan of lockouts: https://www.f150forum.com/f4/phaser-...2/#post4722139

F6AZ-6L266-CA and F6AZ-6L266-DA are the Ford part numbers for the cast iron tensioners

I used the Ford Racing Oil pump when I did my tensioner crap.. I also used the iron tensioners. 119K on my truck. Since the replacement of the timing stuff oil pressure at hot idle has been right at about 30.

This is the parts I used:

Ford Racing (M-6600-F46) High Volume Oil Pump with Pick Up Tube

Cloyes 9-0391SX Timing Chain

Fel-Pro Tcs46078 Timing Cover Gasket Set

I got my Melling 10340 oil pump and my Cloyes timing set last weekend, thank you Amazon! LOL

I've got most, all, my gaskets. All Felpro, valve cover, timing cover and oil pan.

Also have a new set of SP515 spark plugs, accessory belt with idler pullies and tensioner, oil filter and oil.

Just need to get the VCT solenoids, cam phasers, cast tensioners, front cover/crankshaft seal and crankshaft/harmonic balancer bolt and washer.

One other question on the tensioner, do you come with a gasket or do they not need one? I haven't seen a gasket available.

Man, lots of parts, LOL.

I only want to go into this once, I figure that I should do it all.

Anything else I should consider replacing?

Thanks-
Jon

I would do the lash adjusters and followers at the same time, when I did mine, I found that I had 13 bad lash adjusters that would not pump up with pressure. Explained alot of the noise that I had, quiet ever since.

Good luck
Tom

I agree 100%. Did the same on mine '04 that had exhibited the signature 5.4L "tick" for practically all its 212,000 mile life. I used strong solvents / compressed air in the all lifter wells and new lifters dropped in easily - with oil holes aligned with the oil holes in the head.

Zero valve train noise now. All that can be heard is the soft quiet click of fuel injectors. It's WONDERFUL!
